Last Friday, our newest volunteer connector, Theresa, met with Camden resident Lauren Cooke. Theresa is an 18 year old student studying at SOAS University and has decided to take some time out from her busy schedule and take on a new role.  58-year-old Lauren, admitted to me that she was a little nervous about meeting someone so young.  However, her fears proved unfounded as they spent an enjoyable hour talking themselves and getting to know each other.

Lauren is unable to get out much, as she has mobility problems and has to navigate a flight of stairs. This week has also been extra hard for her as she had to have a brain scan.  So meeting Theresa was a nice distraction from many of her problems.

Camden Community Connectors is a Big Lottery-funded project working with older people to tackle social isolation and loneliness across the borough.

If you can spend just two hours once a week volunteering with us, you too could help older people like Lauren to continue to access local facilities and carry on with their passions, hobbies and engage with others.
